Wigston Academy Careers Programme
Years 7-11
The Academy careers programme is designed to build students’ knowledge, confidence and independence progressively from
Year 7 to Year 11. Activities may be adapted during the year to respond to student needs and new opportunities.

Introduction to careers education and Unifrog; employability skills; exploration of interests and strengths; careers links within subjects; workplace-related activity and Take Your Child to Work Day. |

Year 8 |
Exploration of employment sectors and local labour market information; introduction to post-16 pathways, including academic, vocational, technical and apprenticeship routes; continued use of Unifrog. |

Year 9 |
Careers support for GCSE option choices; decision-making activities; encounters with employers and providers; further exploration of post-16 pathways; workplace-related experience and careers activities through the curriculum. |

Year 10 |
One week of work experience; preparation and reflection activities; Meet the Employer; careers fair; exploration of post-16 options; personal careers guidance where appropriate; development of employability skills. |

Year 11 |
Post-16 applications; personal statements; interview preparation and mock interviews; encounters with colleges, sixth forms, apprenticeship and training providers; access to impartial personal careers guidance; results-day and destination support. |
Personal careers guidance
Students receive access to impartial personal careers guidance at key transition points. Additional or earlier support may be arranged where individual needs are identified.
Careers across the curriculum
Subject areas help students understand how curriculum knowledge and skills connect with future study, employment sectors and careers. Students also take part in external encounters and activities linked to different subjects where opportunities are available.
